A Newbie's first outing with the Club!

On Sunday, 13 Sept, I loaded my 130 Landy, called Angie, with picnic, recovery gear, my adventurous 7 year old niece and myself. We were joining the CLRC for our first outing.

Excitement, fear, anxiousness, unknown, will I be OK? … All these thoughts spinning in my head.

But being a little bit of an adrenaline junkie I was looking forward to what was to come. And adrenaline was delivered in big doses.

On arrival I was welcomed with friendly smiles behind masks, words of acceptance and words of encouragement. Dennis was great in making me feel welcome and introduced me to everyone. So many helping hands the whole day. Lots of fun and laughter.

In a real blonde blunder moment, I have to come clean with all that helped me that day when stuck in the mud pool, which I see has been well documented with photos. I did not have my diff lock engaged, I realized afterwards, and that is why the back tyre was spinning!!! I suppose this is how we learn. So to my very able bodied mud diggers I owe you for helping me get out of the mud. Drinks on me at next outing!!!

At the end of the day I reflected back on what a wonderful I had had. I had challenged Angie and myself and we had both come out fine the other end.

Thanks to all for being so kind, welcoming and helpful. I look forward to many more outings/trips together.

Kind regards

Jeanne

Cape Land Rover Club and the New Land Rover Defender

On Sunday 23 August 2020 the Cape Land Rover Club (CLRC) trialled the new Defender D240 on the Tierkloof 4x4 Trail. This route has predominantly rocky sections and loose shale with a soft sandy section near the end.

This was the Club’s first outing with the new Defender and an excellent opportunity to test its off-road ability. The more challenging obstacles were navigated using the more difficult approaches.

The new Defender D240 diesel with 8 speed auto transmission, rear and centre differential locks and air suspension, has a completely different feel to the earlier Defender range. On-board cameras and Terrain Response driving modes add to the electronic wizardry, which takes some getting acquainted with.

Overall driving impressions will be revealed once a few more off-road trails have been completed, and also the pros and cons given of this new vehicle. We will keep you updated with our most recent experiences.
