The trail originated from the Old Mule Wagon routes, which linked the farms together and also took you to Touwsrivier and Montague. The idea of a 4X4 Trail came in 1993 and the mule routes were connected and repaired.

The trail is 35 km's long and consists basically out of two sections: a Mountain section and a Karoo section.

The Karoo Section consists of two challenging parts: The "Duiker roete" and the "Witkruisarend roete". These parts are clearly marked and there are escape routes available.

The Mountain Section is rated 2 to 3 stars and has a very scenic outlook over the Koo and the Keisie valleys. It starts with either the Plooiberg section (3 stars) or the Bergroete (2 stars). The "Ratel roete" is an alternative to the easy mountain sections, with some steep and sometimes very narrow sections rated as sure 4 -5  stars. This route is marked by a board indicating that no less than two vehicles should do this route and that differential lockers are recommended. This route can be done without diff lockers, but some sections definitely require that someone guide you. Walking the difficult parts first is also a good idea.

The Chicken Run is a short test your skills course situated in the middle of the Karoo and Mountain Sections and makes for a great warm up (rated 4 stars).

The farm consists of two different kinds of Flora: Fynbos and mixture of Tanqua and KleinKaroo.
