The MenoPorsche (Disco 2) gave me a fright when the key refused to turn in the ignition - at about 180 000km ,which apparently is par for the course at this distance. Initially I used Q20 to dowse the ignition ,which helped , as I was able then to start the car.
I was referred by Mike van As to Ian Purchase , a locksmith in Glencairn. Ian took the car in for the day and i collected it later with the problem solved. Ian is familiar with Discos and he removed the ignition lock and cleaned up the tumblers or pins or whatever it is that lurks in these locks . Apparently 3 of the 9 were damaged and
with a little bit of judicious filing the lock is apparently now better than new. Total cost was R520 , which is a better alternative than replacing the lock and facing all the hassles of integrating the new lock and keys into the electronic systems...
Ian says he is invariably successful in repairing the locks - as long as they are taken to him before too much damage is done.

Re: Ignition Lock Problems on the Disco

Hello

I did not know how to post my own question.....just joined last night.
What are the complications in getting a second remote key for my Disco 2?
Hope that there is another way then just the order key from UK that costs
too much.

thanks

Re: Ignition Lock Problems on the Disco

As far as I know you can use any Disco key (so check scrapyards etc) , you just need someone with the appropriate computer to teach it. Try Marius at Savannah Motors (Nikki Lauda St , Montague Gardens) . He is clued up on electrickery
